Support from the TVSC Committee

It is important to remember that you will have a middle school teacher by your side helping you plan and coordinate the day. During the day of the camp itself, students will be accompanied by four highly qualified teachers serving as camp counselors.

"Open House"

All parents, students, administrators, hosts, and sponsors are invited to attend this exciting meeting that "launches" the camp. Each host site is asked to set up a table that will give the students an exciting and inviting "sneak peak" into the Tech Camp in a way that is as interactive as possible. Students, parents, and professionals will be encouraged to visit the different booths in a trade show style. This will be followed by a short program in which we get the students excited about technology, remind everyone of the camp logistics, and honor our many contributors.

Culminating Project

The 2008 culminating project is in the process of being developed.

What to Expect from the Students

The students are enthusiastic, respectful, and anxious to please. Your everyday job, office, or laboratory is a phenomenal new experience for them. Most students have spent little or no time in a formal business setting. Just being in the lobby of your facility is an educational experience for them.  When you work with these students you will get the chance to see your job, business, or university from a completely different perspective. Imagine what you would want to do, see, or learn if you were entering your work environment for the very first time.

In their own words:

“This is not something we get to do every day, or ever!”
– Leilani, entering 8th grade

“My favorite part was we got to see and touch things.”
– Amy, entering 8th grade

“They gave up their time just to educate us.”
- Jefri, entering 8th grade

Student Outcomes

Educational researcher Dr. William Glasser tells us that people learn "10% of what we read,
20% of what we hear...[and] 80% of what we experience." The experience you provide will be memorable and may be the difference between these students continuing to rigorously engage with math and science in high school or choosing to put their efforts elsewhere.

In their own words:

"I want to get a job in this when I'm older."
– Chris, entering 8th grade

"I really AM interested in computers now ."
– Kaeli, entering 8th grade

" I finally understand why I’ve been taking Math and Science."
-  Carl, entering 8th grade
